Boats moored along a warmly lit waterway at dusk

About

Marine engineering, done properly. From London to Oxford.

Milners Marine is a fully mobile marine engineering service led by Oli. The person who turns up to diagnose and fit is Oli; on occasion a member of his team may handle aftercare.

The story

Built around the boats, not a workshop.

Milners Marine started with a simple idea. Boat owners deserve a qualified marine engineer who actually turns up, knows what they are looking at, and finishes the job to a standard worth paying for. No vague invoices, no parts left in a bag on the deck, no "we will be back next week" that turns into a month.

That is why the business is mobile by design. Working from the van means jobs happen where the boat lives, on a schedule that suits the owner, with no relay race between people who have never met your boat.

Every diagnosis and every install goes through Oli. Aftercare is usually Oli too, though on occasion a trusted member of his team will pick up a follow-up call. The standard stays the same either way.

What we stand for

Three things that never get cut.

Properly qualified.

City & Guilds qualified marine engineering, brand-agnostic across diesel, petrol, outboard, electrical and onboard systems. The training is real, not a weekend course.

One pair of hands, start to finish.

The person you book is the person who turns up, diagnoses, fits and follows up. No subcontracted fitters, no apprentice doing the wiring while someone else takes the credit.

Mobile to your mooring.

Work happens where the boat lives, from London to Oxford on the Thames, with south coast breakdown callouts arranged where possible.

Where we work

Local to the Thames, available beyond it.

Most jobs sit between London and Oxford because that is where the regular customers moor. South coast and further afield is fine for the right job, especially planned installs and breakdown callouts. If you are unsure, just ask.

  • Thames, London to Oxford
  • Teddington and Kingston reaches
  • Henley and Marlow
  • Reading and Caversham
  • Abingdon and Oxford
  • Kennet & Avon
  • Grand Union Canal
  • South coast moorings (callout)

Credentials

What sits behind the work.

  • City & Guilds qualified marine engineer
  • 8+ years on the inland waterways
  • Fully insured, public liability cover in place
  • Brand-agnostic across engine, electrical and systems work
  • Breakdown callouts arranged where possible
  • Honest quotes, written up clearly before any work starts

The approach

Diagnose first. Fix once. Leave it tidy.

Most marine problems are not what they first look like. Saltwater, vibration and weather do strange things to electrics and engines, so jumping to a part swap is rarely the right answer. Every job starts with a proper diagnosis, so the bill reflects the actual cause, not the easy guess.

Wiring goes in cleanly. Hoses are properly clipped. Old parts come off the boat with us. And if a job needs a conversation about cost or scope before it grows, you get that call before the work, not after.

I've used several marine engineers before, but none come close to Oli at Milner's Marine. There is a genuine passion for boats and making a proper job of whatever needs doing.

Want to talk it through?

Tell Oli about your boat.

Whether it is a planned install, a service, or something unexpected, a quick conversation usually sets the direction. Quotes are honest and the work is done at your mooring.
