Outboard rigging

Outboards from small auxiliaries to high-output units rigged properly: brackets, controls, fuel, electrics, and instrumentation, set up so the boat is safe and the engine performs.

Overview

A rig is the difference between a working outboard and a problem outboard.

A new outboard is only as good as the rig. Get the bracket height wrong and the boat planes badly. Get the steering or throttle setup wrong and it becomes tiring to run. Get the fuel and electrics wrong and it becomes unreliable.

We rig single and twin outboard installs across tenders, RIBs, day boats, and small motor cruisers. The rig is set up to suit how the boat is used, not just what the manual default suggests.

Where the rig is being upgraded, existing wiring, controls, and brackets are inspected first. If something is fine, it stays. If it is past its life, it gets replaced and the reason is explained.

What's included

What an outboard rig includes.

  • Bracket selection and mounting height set for the hull and use
  • Steering: cable or hydraulic, with proper helm fit and tie bars where needed
  • Throttle and gear controls, side-mount or binnacle, set for smooth feel
  • Fuel system: tank, primer, anti-syphon, and lift to engine
  • Battery, isolator, and charging integration
  • Engine wiring loom, panel install, and fault-code reader compatibility
  • Trim, tilt, and trim tab integration where fitted
  • Sea trial and prop pitch check against actual boat performance

Process

How an outboard rig runs.

  1. Boat and use review

Hull type, normal load, and how you use the boat all feed into the spec. A short conversation up front saves time later.

  2. Quote and parts

Engine, controls, and ancillaries quoted clearly. Parts sourced and delivered to the work site.

  3. Rig and fit

Engine mounted, systems wired and plumbed, and everything bench-tested before the first start.

  4. Sea trial

On-water test for trim, planing, and top end. Prop pitch checked, anything tweaked while on board.
